Want to be a part of our ground-breaking project?
We’re looking to partner with UKAS accredited asbestos inspection bodies who are willing to share site information to help us grow our national database.
Asbestos Information CIC is a collective of UKAS accredited industry professionals who are improving the way asbestos materials are recorded and assessed. We’re also providing clearer guidelines for identifying and mitigating asbestos-related risk within the property industry.
As a community interest company, we don’t exist for commercial gain. We are investigating alternative mechanisms for identifying and presenting asbestos-related risk factors – and we’re combining our knowledge and experience with real-time data with the latest innovations in AI to raise awareness of the consequences of asbestos exposure and reduce the impact poor handling and negligence has on UK businesses and communities.
More than 25 years after asbestos was banned in the UK, the risk of exposure to disturbed fibres remains high, and much of the population continues to be diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses every year. To date, more than 125,000 people have died as a result of asbestos-related diseases.
We recognise the need for action – and we want to start by instigating more transparent conversations around the extent of asbestos and the dangers it presents. Find out how we’re achieving this and discover our comprehensive strategy for change.
The Asbestos Information Certificate is a data-driven initiative that’s designed to simplify the output of asbestos surveys and identify the steps that need to be taken to manage asbestos more effectively within any given property.
All information is housed in a comprehensive yet easy-to-read template that will transform reporting processes within our industry and make it clear to building owners and managers precisely how they can lower risk at their sites.
In 2022, a group of accredited consultancies researched and released the first annual data analysis report into asbestos in UK buildings.
The survey was conducted over a six-month period from October 2021 to March 2022. The information gathered from more than a million data points from 128,000 buildings produced some shocking top-line statistics.
Clearly, more needs to be done to identify, track, manage and remove instances of disturbed and undisturbed asbestos. Specific measures also need to be set in motion to reduce the number of asbestos-related deaths within our population, which remain at unacceptably high levels.
